E-invoicing: SMEs Still Underestimate the Scale of the Challenge
Our Partner, Noureddine Baqchich, provides insights into the reform in Finances News Hebdo.
Many SMEs still confuse e-invoicing with sending a PDF by email. The real change lies elsewhere: moving to structured data that can be automatically checked by the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI).
In the 22 October 2026 issue of Finances News Hebdo, Noureddine Baqchich, Co-founder of Baker Tilly Morocco, discusses the three key challenges of this transition: data quality, the cost of adapting IT systems, and cash flow. In his view, the main risk is treating e-invoicing as nothing more than a software update.
His recommendation to business leaders is to start preparing without waiting for the implementing decree. This means ensuring the accuracy of customer identification details and VAT rates, securing invoice numbering, documenting invoicing workflows, and appointing a project lead. This groundwork will prove valuable regardless of the final framework adopted.
